One of the most common issues we see in Phoenix during the summer is leaking air conditioners. There are many reasons you AC will leak, as well as many factors that will affect how much the repairs cost. First and foremost, if you notice an AC leak, turn the system completely off to avoid excess damage. This can help you save some extra electricity and cash before you hire a serviceman to make the repairs to your air conditioner.
Types of A/C Leaks & Cost for Repairs
The following article will look at the different components that can cause an AC leak and how much you can expect to pay.
1. Clogged Drain Line
As warm air passes over the evaporator coil, it is cooled before it enters your home. During this process, condensation forms and water drips down the condensate drain line and into the drain pan outside of your home. If the condensate drain line becomes clogged, water can back up and overflow into your home, resulting in a messy leak. To flush the line or repair it can cost anywhere from $75-$250. In the case that the evaporator coil needs replacing, you are would pay between $400 to $950.
2. Damaged Drain Pan
The water from the drain line collects in the drain pan. Over time, the drain pan can rust or become damaged, allowing water to leak through. To replace this pan you are looking at $350 to $850.
