When to Call a Plumber to Fix a Water Leak
You See Water
If you notice water in or around your home look for the source. If it’s not a faucet or hose left running, you more than likely have a water leak.
You Smell Mold
If there is a moldy smell in the air or even an unpleasant smell in general, there may be a leak behind your walls or beneath the floors.
Low Flow Indicator
Even if you don’t see water or smell a bad odor, you can check your outside water meter. If the flow indicator is low, water might be leaking.
What to Do if Water is Leaking
If you see water pooling, the first thing you should do is try to shutoff the water source. If there is a valve close to the leak, try closing it. If the leak persists, try closing the shutoff valve where the water comes into your home. If all else fails, turn off the valve at the meter.
If you suspect there is a leak in your home but cannot find the source of it, try turning off all known water uses inside and outside of your house. When you’ve made sure all faucets and taps are closed, check your home’s water meter. If the flow indicator moves, you have a leak and you’ll likely need a plumber to repair it.
Phoenix Slab Leak & Under Concrete Water Repairs
As a homeowner, you want your home in the best condition possible. That’s why you should be taking the time to inspect your home for things like water leaks on a regular basis. However, even if you do that, not every type of leak is going to be noticeable to the eye. That is definitely the case when it comes to a leak in the slab of your home. If you do have that kind of leak, you’ll likely notice that your heating or cooling bills are skyrocketing.
In the summer, homes with a slab leak will see a major increase in your bills. You might also notice that the floor is much warmer in some parts of your home. In the winter months, you’ll likely notice that you’re paying a lot more to heat your home. You might even notice that your floors are cold in some spots.
Another common sign of a leaking slab is cracking, shrinking or broken areas on your concrete. While those can be fixed cosmetically, you need to have the underlying problem taken care of or it will just happen again in the future. In the end, slab repair will save you money, but only if you hire the right people to do the job.
Signs of a Concrete Slab or Foundation Water Leak
If it is on the cold side, you will see an increase in your water bill.
If it is on the hot side, you will see an increase in your electric bill.
If you notice your floor is getting hotter, you may have a slab leak.
Sinking or Cracking
Any sinking or cracking in your cement or tile is a sign of a slab leak.
