In the past several years, air conditioning manufacturers have begun building heat pumps and A/C units that don’t have refrigerant added. These units are often referred to as “dry-charged units.” Air conditioners that are dry-charged can legally be sold throughout the United States, even though they are equipped to be used with older, R22 refrigerant as opposed to new regulation R410A refrigerant.
